Home Meal Delivery - How Does It Work?

While every meal home delivery service is different, many follow the same general principles. While some services (like Dinewise above) will let you order individual single meals, many plans required that you order a week to a months worth of food at a time.

By doing this, it helps them to keep their costs down since they can buy in bulk. So for the most part you'll be ordering a meal plan (7 days up to a months worth of food at a time).  The food generally comes once a week to ensure freshness.

Most services do not require you to be at home to receive your food. (Since containers are made specially to keep food cool you can often pick up your food later in the day).

While prices range you can usually get some great deals and even save money by getting your meals delivered.

For example some diet delivery services like Nutrisystem start at around $11 a day - very cheap (although the food quality is not the highest). There are other plans like Diet To Go that make you fresh meals for around $17 a day.

Obviously the more gourmet you go, the higher the cost. However, even when you compare the type of 4 course meals you get with a luxury service like Gourmet Station to what you'd pay in a 4 star restaurant, it's still much more affordable. And the comfort of dining in your own home can also make the experience much more enjoyable.

Once you've ordered, meals usually come in 4 - 7 days and some services like Gourmet Grocery even offer same day delivery.

Once you receive your meals, most offer detailed heat instructions on the package. You can often microwave your meals in 5 - 10 minutes or heat them in a convention oven in around 20 - 30 minutes.

You can buy meals or meal plans for 1 person. However there are also services that deliver meals for 2 people or even up to 8 (i.e. if you're ordering a special holiday feast buffet)

There are some services that deliver locally, however they tend to be higher priced (because they're smaller) than the nationwide delivery services (which can keep costs down because of a larger client base).

Many of these service like Dinewise do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if you try them and don't like them, you can get a refund.

So that's about it.Take your time and try to find the service that fits your lifestyle and culinary preferences. And enjoy!
